In 2016 he won the ‘1st Asian Saxophone Congress, Taiwan’, ‘Premio Nazionale C. Bettinardi’, ‘Louis van Dijk Jazz Award’ awards, while in 2015 he won the ‘Leiden Jazz Award’. He has lived between the Netherlands and Italy since 2013, where he is leader and ‘sideman’ of several ensembles. He finished his academy studies in Salerno, Rome and Hague conservatories. Despite his young age, he performed in several jazz festivals and clubs in Italy, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Romania, England and Taiwan. He composed and arranged music for ‘Call it Sextet’, ‘CJDR Jazz Ensemble’, ‘RC Big Band’, ‘S.Louis Big Band’, ‘CvA Big Band’, ‘NSJO Orchestra’ and for the Dutch Minister of Finances. In november 2016 he worked with the renowned ‘Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw’ in Amsterdam. After the success obtained with its ‘Zadeno Trio’, in 2016 he formed the ‘Claudio Jr De Rosa Jazz 4et’: an international group made of four young men active in the Netherlands. The launch album of the band, Groovin’ Up!, has the label Incipit Records and was released in collaboration with LemonJazz. It is composed of 8 original tracks and of an arrangement of the popular standard tune I Hear a Rhapsody.

The powerful and melodic voice of De Rosa’s tenor sax and soprano sax is supported by a young rhythmic section, composed of the pianist Alessio Busanca, the double bass player Aldo Vigorito and of the drummer Luigi Del Prete. The ballad Closed Eyes is dedicated to the victims of the tragical terrorist attack of Bataclan theatre in Paris in november 2015.

Groovin’ Up! is a sparkling and dynamic project that looks into the future with passion and enthusiasm, but also with profound admiration and sincere respect for old and new jazz traditions. It’s a work that wants to innovate giving emotions, preserving the discretion of those who enter gently and the courage of those who start to walk a long path.
